Kannapolis, N.C. — Representatives of the emerging North Carolina Research Campus, the University of North Carolina system, and private sector firms will gather at the campus on Wednesday to disclose a new research alliance.
The event also will include the “topping off” of the UNC Nutrition Research Institute and the groundbreaking for the North Carolina State University Institute of Advanced Fruit and Vegetable Science.
Details of the new private sector alliance were not disclosed other than to announce it would include research done at the campus “from crop science to cancer prevention.”
An announcement for the event said a representative from a “major technology company” would also be on hand.
“The collaborative nature of the campus along with the best minds and state-of-the-art equipment will produce breakthroughs that can change the world,” said David Murdock, the billionaire owner and chairman of Dole Food Company, Inc. and campus developer Castle & Cooke, who is driving the project.
Erskine Bowles, president of the UNC system, will be on hand, as will various politicians and the chancellors of UNC-CH, NCSU and North Carolina Central University.
The event will start at 10 a.m.
