Raleigh, N.C. — The Rex Healthcare Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support patient assistance at Rex Senior Health Center in southeast Raleigh.
Funds will be used to help with patient transportation to ensure patients receive the care they need and in a timely fashion. Lack of reliable transportation is often seniors’ greatest barrier to making doctor’s appointments, getting prescriptions filled and following up with physician referrals. These disruptions can have a significant impact on medical care, health offiicials say.
“Bank of America and Rex Healthcare share the common goal of improving the lives of our neighbors and promoting excellence in our communities,” said Bruce Sharpe, Triangle president, Bank of America. “We are proud to support over 100 senior citizens with the more than 400 trips they need annually to stay out of the hospital and allow them to live life to the fullest.”
As part of Rex Healthcare since 1997, Rex Senior Health Center provides comprehensive health care services for people age 65 and older. The Center’s goal is to help seniors maintain optimal health, while emphasizing preventive health screening and education.
Rex Healthcare, a member of UNC Health Care, is a private, not-for-profit health care system, with 4,000 employees.
