When I started shopping at BJ's I noticed a significant drop in our grocery bill. I buy everything I can there! I go about once a month. In addition to saving I also get 2% back. Last year I got 2 checks totaling $128! That was the entire membership fee and $48 extra! Needless to say BJs doesnt have everything. I have been going to Food Lion because it is the only store within 10 miles of my house. I go with a list of neccesities and look for the sales weekly. Doing this dropped our grcery bill from $1200 a month to $832. Now that gas has gone up, it is time to cut again- only this time it will be less food.

Try the store brands - often just as good (some are better - just try Walmart's Thick-n-creamy mac-n-cheese).

Join a discount club and stock up on meats in bulk (especially buy the reduced for quick sale - take them home, divide and freeze).

Avoid eating out! Too expensive...

Buy the things you use alot in bigger packages - often cheaper than the small packages. If you aren't sure you will use it all, many things can be frozen!

Buy some refillable water bottles and forget buying water! Better for the environment too.

Use a shopping list and stick to it! Don't go to the grocery store hungry - will end up with a lot of extras...

Go for the shopping basket instead of the shopping cart. The baskets get heavy quickly and you'll want to get to the checkout line as fast as possible. This particularly comes in handy at Walmart, Super Target or any other place where you can buy low price items. Nothing wrong with low price items unless you buy way too many of them at one time.

walk to woods...take 30 cent bullet and put in gun..aim at deer and shoot it...can eat for a month.....oh and grow your own veggies

buy foods when they are in season...that is when prices are the lowest...stock up on staples on sale....paper and food wise....flour will freeze well...if you have the room start stocking up on sales...

I drive my neighbors car to go get food. I hope he does not figure it out.

One word: Walmart.

Pizza cravings can be cured by just keeping some tortillas frozen and some pizza sauce in the frig. You can throw anything you want on top and even use it for fun with your kids if you have them.

Just last weekend I made Chicken alfredo with sun dried tomatoe on whole wheat. Whole Wheat tortilla, left over rotisserie chicken, diced sun dried tomatoes, and some alfredo that was left over in a jar.

All of that is for food savings. The gas part - saved you from driving around to eat out - or multiple trips to the grocery store.

Keep your errands in an order further from home to closest. Try and run errands around your on your way home of it is easier - better than making a special trip.

Order what you can online for household or specialty items. Let UPS burn the gas.

Breakfast on the run draining your cash? Make some breakfast burritos in advance for a couple of days during the week to just nuke and go.

(con't) Keep snack foods in your drawers at work. Turkey jerky, nuts, seed mixes, pretzels, etc. Keeps you out of the vending machines.

Also, if you are a soda junkie, buy your stuff in packs and drag some to work. $4.00 for a 6 pack beats 7.50 buying them individually.

First, only plan for 1 week at a time when shopping.

Prepare your menus ahead of time so that you only shop for what you need

Try and purchase your staple meats in bulk (i.e. chicken, beef, pork). Break up into individual packages and freeze. Plan your menus around the meats you already have.

Vegan? then definately planning only in 1 week intervals keeps your veggies freshest as you use them.

You know you will want "quick fix" meals for those "I don't want to cook tonight".

When you are cooking - either on the grill or on the stove - make an extra helping or two of meat/ veggies as you are going. You can vaccum seal them in a bag and freeze them. When you are in one of those "I don't want to cook tonight moods" you pull one out and boil or microwave it for a fresh dinner already prepared.

THis works great for vegans too, many dishes can be frozen.

This will save on your "eat out" bill.
