favorite childhood books

Published Jul. 2, 2008

What books did you enjoy reading as a child?

I started thinking about some of my childhood favorites a few weeks ago after I talked to a friend on the phone. My friend, who is in her 20s, laughed as she told me what she was reading at the moment … “The Baby-sitters Club” books.

If you’re not familiar with them, they were first published in 1986 and were geared towards young girls, not 20-somethings. My friend said she loved to read the books as a child, so she went to the library recently and checked them out.

She’s reading her way through the collection, and from listening to her laugh on the phone, she’s having a great time revisiting a piece of her childhood.

As a kid, one of my favorite books was “Matilda” by Roald Dahl. My two younger brothers got me hooked on “Goosebumps” by R.L. Stine. Those are two favorites that come to mind.

My friend has inspired me, so I think I’ll head down to the library soon and check them out. It’s nice to feel like a little kid again sometimes :)

What about you? What books did you love as a kid?

Queenie Peavey by R. Burch The Winnemah Spirit by C Lane I have really enjoyed re reading some the above named books with my children. We are now in college and high school and we still enjoy discussing shared books. My husband has decided to play catch up and has started on a list of classics. Reading is great family fun.

the encyclopedia. not kidding.

The main things I remember most were The Hardy Boys and the "Scientists and Inventors" volume of the Childcraft Encyclopedia. I think I read the entire volume at least twice. :-)

What a great blog! I've always loved to read.

One of my early favorites was "Frog and Toad are Friends".

As I grew older my favorites were "The Secret Garden", anything by Beverly Cleary, "Encyclopedia Brown", the "Boxcar Children" series, anything by Judy Blume, "The Phantom Tollbooth".

The Quiltmaker's Gift.

Shabanu & Haveili Great books!

Pretty much all of the Henry Huggins books, plus some other Cleary stuff. I also loved Encyclopedia Brown and The Hardy Boys.

Matilda was great! I love Roald Dahl!

I can't remember kids book, but my favorite author as a teen was: Ann Rinaldi. Fantastic books. The best: Wolf by the Ears. Every teen should read it.

speaking of,,I have an Alex Kava calling my name now. I think I'll go get some reading down today while the kidlets are napping. Thanks
