federal court upholds ban of confederate flag clothing in tennessee high school
Published Aug. 21, 2008Southern Pride or Symbol of hate??? Would they have done the same for a student wearing a Malcolm X t-shirt? or Vice Versa???
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A federal appeals court panel has ruled in favor of a Tennessee high school that banned students from wearing clothing with the Confederate battle flag after several racial incidents.
Students Derek Barr, Chris White and Roger Craig White claimed in a lawsuit that their free speech rights were violated by the 2005 ban on the Confederate symbol at William BloFeunt High School in Maryville.
School officials said their ban came after racial tension that included a fight, a civil rights complaint and graffiti of a Confederate flag, a racial slur and a noose.
In its opinion filed Wednesday in Cincinnati, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that school officials had a right to ban the flag because they could "reasonably forecast" that it would disrupt education.

Succeed? Succeed at what? As in accomplish?
The correct word is: Main Entry: se·cede Pronunciation: \si-ˈsēd\ Function: intransitive verb Inflected Form(s): se·ced·ed; se·ced·ing to withdraw from an organization (as a religious communion or political party or federation)
If you are going to argue your point about why the south did what it what it did, dont validates the others side opionon of you by using the wrong word to make your point

No, I think the court is dead on with this ruling. The key phrase is "they could 'reasonably forecast' that it would disrupt education". Other examples would be banning articles of clothing like mini-skirts and revealing tops on girls, hats on boys, or gang affiliated attire. All can/are disruptive to the main purpose of school which is education.
"Some have adopted the flag as a symbol of hate, like the Nazis did with the swastika."
I agree and it really t's me off to see some dumb bunny wearing it as a Aryan pride symbol as that is so off base. I have battle flag and the last thing I equate with it is nazis.

Since I don't try to tell others how to mind their business, I would surely love it if they would keep their noses out of mine! However in the great state of Georgia, our governor decided the state flag needed changing and we weren't even allowed to vote on it! Don't all of you just love that "one person - one vote" rule?

There were three versions of the Confederate National flag and then there is the battle flag which is the one that is always causing the controversy.
If this symbol is to be banned in school then all symbols will have to be, otherwise they are opening themselves up for a lawsuit, which they would probably loose.
Southerners will always have an undying loyalty to the South so get used to it. We still revere our flag and heritage
