"Is is true that babies can still be made for a couple of months afterward?"

I recall having to give a sample 6 weeks after the procedure, but the sample couldn't be over 30 minutes old or something. Which, if you live longer than 30 minutes away from the docs office, you have step in the bathroom when you get there.

I brought mine a McD.'s bag, which confused the heck out of the lab tech at first.

Also, on average, the load volume decreases by 15%. Not sure how they calculated that. Don't really want to know.

charger: the doc must have messed up and turned him into one of those 'other things' because it was not that bad.

no thanks! I worked with a guy that got the snip-snip, he sat at home with an ice pack for more than a week and took a few weeks more to recover fully.

We go thru the pain of childbirth and having our tubes tied (is not as bad but DO NOT do it in the same visit as having a child, much more painful), they can be the ones to get snipped. We have to be put to sleep, in a hospital, on an operating table. They (men) are in a doctor's office, awake, on an exam table. Come on now! Look at it like this, when we give birth, sometimes we have to be cut so we would then be even. Men get a small cut or 2 so we don't have to get a big cut later on.

Been there, done that. Go into the doc's office and there's the cutest girl you'd ever want to see behind the desk. I'm thinking, 'Oh, no! Puleeze don't do that to me.' Thankfully, my nurse is everyone's picture of the ideal grandma. Not fun, but I was doing OK, (the doc was funny and pumping the tunes while he worked). That is until I spotted the smoke! Hold the phone, nobody said ANYthing about there being smoke! (Apparently when you burn (cauterize I guess is the correct word) tissue, there occassionally is smoke). The thought of the deed is much worse than the actual deed.

We were told 2 weeks before resuming any sort of physical activity. Since my husband is self-employed and the work is physically strenuous, we simply couldn't afford for him to be out of work for that length of time (at the time we originally investigated it). Since then, I've devloped some issues, which put me back on the pill to control, so it became a moot point.

Re: the comment about it being "most appropriate for BOTH the male and female to undergo their respective procedures. This would provide a sense of mutual commitment from both."

I fail to see the logic in this. I would NOT want my husband to undergo a very invasive surgery if there were any other options. For a husband to say "I will if you will" is not only financially odd to me (since most insurance policies won't cover this as it's elective), but also it's not apples to apples. One is minimally invasive/quick recovery while the other is invasive surgery (or was when we investigated) w/longer recovery.

"danriver- How long were you out of commission? Meaning, how long were you unable to do any sort of physical activity? Running, weight lifting, etc.?"

Eh, about a weekend. I run and lift regularly anyway, so I was in pretty good shape going into the procedure. I had it done on a Friday morning, and sat out the weekend, then got back into the game on Monday.

"I'm all for it as long as I can still fire the old musket and reload with no problem."

No problems observed here at all. Everything works just as well as it did prior to the procedure, and you get the added peace of mind of not having to worry about any kid that pops up being yours.

I am 41 with 2 sons.
