auto accidents/cell phones study released

Study Indicates Car Accidents Are A Leading Cause Of...

WASHINGTON D.C. - Study results released by The Department of Transportation this week indicate car accidents often result in the additional misfortune of dropped cell phone calls.

Other regrettable aftermaths seen as direct results of car accidents include spilled coffee and smudged make-up. In one particularly unfortunate case a driver cleaning his handgun was killed when the weapon discharged due to a head on collision.

To prevent such unfortunate outcomes government officials urge drivers to avoid car accidents. Roger Stillman of the Ohio Insurance Institute commented, “The evidence strongly suggests incidents such as dropped cell phone calls are easily prevented when drivers strive to maintain a strong driving record.”

I have never had an accident and never use a cell phone in the car. It is after all, a car not a mobile phone booth. Please hang up, I'm not dying to get a call

yougottabekidding,

Same here. I've been in only one accident that involved my cell phone, and I was rear ended by this chick and her 2 kids in a Suburban.

My little Toyota didn't stand a chance. Or my shoulder. Man, even though she just rolled into me, she whacked my back pretty good.

I dropped my phone, and I hadn't even made the call yet.

My philosophy while driving with a cell phone is pretty simple. The road is more important than my phone. If I'm holding it, I'll drop that thing in a hot minute.

It's just a phone. Jaysus.

leo-nc.... I would be so sad if the last thing i did was gave the finger. It would seem so senseless and sad for that to be the last thing. sad.

I have had two accidents while I was talking on my cell phone. The 1st happened when someone plowed into me doing about 45 and forced me into the van in front of me while I was stopped at a red light. The 2nd, a dump truck ran a stop sign and I t-boned his left front tire. I dropped my phone both times, the first was from the impact and the 2nd was to better steer, if I had not dropped my phone the second time, I probably would have hit his fuel tank or went under the dump bed. Neither collision would have been prevented by me not being on my cell phone. A couple of weeks later, my truck caught on fire and burned up. that had nothing to do with my cell phone either

I have been in 3 car accidents in my life. Hit by a drunk driver in 1985, and hit by a teenager with a learner's permit in 93, and had the carp plowed out of my azz by someone on her cell phone at a stop light. Funny thing is, is that she kept talking the whole time until the LEO told her to hang up the phone. Amazing.

Mythbusters did a show where they tried to debunk the myth that talking on the cell phone was as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. Their results? The drivers drove WORSE while talking on the cell phone, than when were intoxicated. And yes, they took a professional driving course and did a "controll" test of how the drivers would handle the course. Then gave them cell phones and had someone call and talk to them, then let the drink alcohol (the cops would only let it get to .79 - .8 and over they wouldn't let them do the test). It was fun to watch.

Okay... the word filter is a trip.

You cannot say the word dor ky.

WTH?

Um... I forgot to add the Apple brainwashed me so bad that I kept upgraded to 3g recently... I had had my old iPhone since launch day (and no, I'm not all geeky, I didn't stand in line for one... the store at Southpoint didn't even have a line when I got there... go figure).

LOL

leo-nc,

I will NEVER understand road rage. I mean, I get peeved at people who are doing seemingly stupid stuff on the roads, but not enough to attack them for it.

And I never flip people off unless I'm sure they're not packing heat and I could lick'em in a fist fight if we wound up at a stoplight together. LOL ;)

True story. I was waiting at a light a couple days ago, and this car in front of me switched lanes. I was in a straight lane, and didn't feel inclined to pull up to the light. Some crazed out dude on an SUV flew past me, horn honking. I just pretended not to notice him flipping me off, and he honked harder, still flipping me off. I glanced out of the corner of my eye to make sure my doors were locked, and reached over to grab my cell in case I had to dial 911.

The light changed, and the dude just SAT there, until some people further back started to honk. When he finally went, he was going like 30 mph in a 45 mph zone. It was weird. I didn't mind, as I wasn't in a hurry.

I thought about getting m'self a crackberry, I did. Then I got an iPhone... I sorta got stuck with it. I think they have brainwashed me, SD.

LOL

I don't text and drive, though I have been known to text at long stoplights.
