dove season

Any dove hunting plans for Monday?

My youngest son can NOT wait for Monday to get here.

How do you cook yours?

My husband and son have decided to grill them.

There are about 50 that hang out in our yard, think they will still be here Monday?

Hmmm was wondering if dove was good to eat. apparently from these posts I may have to try some! I've had quail, deer and gator before. Never been dove hunting but it's a pretty big deal in Pender county where I used to live. Squires folks always host a big hunt on opening day.

Went today to renew my hunting license - stocked up on shells - can't wait for 12 on Monday!! We grill them, also, but we wrap bacon around them before we do - they do taste like chicken - sort of, with slightly less flavor that is more gamey... Enjoy your hunts!!

My entire family hunts, and my philosphy is that it's OK, as long as you eat what you kill. Hunting for sport, while I think it's perfectly legal, I prefer the philosphy of you kill no more than you plan to eat - whether it's hunting or fishing. However, I don't condemn sport hunters or fishermen - just a different philosophy.

are you kidding me ? my husband, his dad and my brother in law do this every year, i dont eat things that are killed for sport. I buy my food from the grocery store =)

I am a catch-and-release hunter...I limit my hunting to fishing. But I don't see anything wrong with shooting a bird for food. Especially when it's given to those who have little to eat. This is similiar to when deer hunters donate their "catches" to the needy.

Not anymore, but I used to love them with a strip of bacon wrapped around them, then grilled.

Guess that means that the beautiful odve will fill my yeard again this year - they seem to know that they fill find safety here - along with all of the other "wild" animals who hang around my house (a shame that they are all feathered or four legged - not a blond, brunette or redhead in the bunch)
