wral viewers talk about the booming noises...

Published Sep. 7, 2008

I see that many of you are discussing the loud boom.

Here are a few accounts, in case you haven't seen this already.

I was stationed on an f-15 base for many years, and we would break the sound barrier quite often. We would try to do it over unpopulated areas, but an occasional town might come into play as well.

We would sometimes receive phone calls, but would dismiss the fact that we were breaking the sound barrier and all of our aircraft are accounted for at the time. What they didn't know is that it was maybe one of our buddies returning to their base and trying to get a rise out of our commanding officer at the time.

My guess is sonic boom. I was in college when a jet overhead broke the sound barrier. It rattled walls, windows and even the floor! It scared the bejeezes out of me. I thought the apartment was falling in on us. From the descriptions I've read, it sounds like a similar experience.

I too have been trough sonic booms but not one this loud. I am more apt to be sure it's more of sonic boom. If it had a been a meteorite then as large as this one was, wouldn't there be people reporting partials of rocks falling to earch and hitting someone or something. They don't completely burn up if it's a large meteorite. One that big should have been picked up on radar at airports.I think it was some sneaky little pilots being naughty and haven't admitted that it was done. The military won't admit it. They never admit to anything that will make them look bad. To me it was too much like a sonic boom not to be.

I didn't hear it in Cary, but my guess is it's probably relaed to military or meteorites.

it's was the media whiffing on the violent and horrible "Hurricane Hannah". Hope all of you out there in golo land that succumbed to the frenzy last week still have plenty of bread, milk, and TP along with all that melting ice and that brand new generator. I see you waving your hands and and those worn out credit cards. You got, gotchaed. Bend over and say thank you to radio and TV for all the gloom and doom. What'cha gonna do next time Triangle.

Didn't this happen someplace else nearby a short time back? Someone knows what it is.
