It might be a “different category”, but given it’s subjective, that doesn’t make it a worst, or more harsh category. Think of what an Islamic culture would do to an unwed mother. That’s REAL danger there. Some American families disown the daughters and throw them out into the street. If the mother’s physical life is not in jeopardy by the pregnancy then the abortion is still one of convenience. Sadly, I think most politicians cite the rape exception out of political necessity rather than moral objection.

That’s a slippery and subjective slope. Mental stress could be used to justify any and every abortion. Stress from work. Stress from family. Stress from the religious community. Etc. I believe if people are going to be against abortion on grounds that it’s murder, the ONLY allowance would be of physical harm to the mother (i.e. she’d die if she carried it to full term).
