about internet crimes against children
The purpose of this group is to educate people on the ongoing issue of Internet Crimes Against Children. I would like to keep this for mainly Q & A. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer to your satisfaction or direct you to someone that can.
**If you want to schedule an internet safety presentation I am responsible for those presentations in Durham and I am available days, nights, weekends, basically whenever you need me. I am available by email at Mark.Walker@DurhamNC.gov**

Although I dont have kids, I have two 14 yr old nieces who have already had their share of problems on the internet; and although my brother has installed a keyboard tracker on the home computer, I believe he is behind on the times as to the many different things and problems one can face on the internet.
Also is there any kind of volunteer program such as "to catch a predator" one might become involved in?
Thanks Again

The short answer is, of course, no. Any web site that a child can access can also be accessed by adults. That being said there are some websites that are safer than others. Disney maintains several website that are social in nature, but are heavily moderated, such as Club Penguin.
It sounds like you are doing the right thing, monitor what your children do on the internet.
"I would like to know when you will be having a seminar. Any info you can share as to times, locations, availability to the public would be nice!"
We typically do not host the safety presentations. We respond to requests from schools, churches, civic groups, etc.
