They said what?

It amazes me every day, how much my 4 3/4 year old daughter, Campbell, acts like a 15 year old. She's smart as a whip and talks like it too. Just the other day, my 3 year old son Caiden was bugging her, imagine that. And Campbell said, "Stop it Caiden, or I'll eat you for breakfast!" She said she heard it on Spiderman. Lovely, just lovely.

Campbell got into a little bit of trouble at school one day because she wasn't listening. I had a talk with her and so did my husband a little later. He asked her why she got into trouble, to which she replied, "Stop Dad, it's my life!." What the heck???? I don't remember having that smart mouth when I was a kid! This must be payback for something my husband did! :-)

I caught her one day outside throwing sand at her brother. I was inside watching. I ran out and asked why she did it. She said, without hesitating, "His face just got in the way." Then she asked how I saw her. I told her I looked through the window. She asked which window. She said she was sorry she got caught. Needless to say, a timeout followed.

My son, thank goodness, hasn't gotten to that level yet. He still says things that are cute. Like "chick mix" for chex mix, and kriggonite for kryptonite. Although the pants full of poo thing is not cute. He thought Spiderman going #2 on the potty (with raisins) was the coolest thing, talked about it all night. But it didn't help one bit. I'm giving up for a while.

I enjoyed the commentary. Thanks, Kids say things so much better at times. I am amazed at the verbal skills youngsters have today then in my generation when kids should have been" seen and not heard".

That is funny i run a daycare out of my home and one of the little boys is way to smart for his own good. He is only 2 and if you say something like stupid or duh or anything that is a tiny bit mean in anyway he says "what did you say, you better not let me catch you saying that or you will sit in the corner until your 2 minutes are up", I am also helping his parents potty train him as well we started at 1 1/2 and he is doing really good, he goes into the bathroom with his daddy when he needs to go number 1 and watches and sometimes does it himself. that is how we were able to get him into it. I would always say "do you want to go potty like daddy". He would get very excited and want to do the same things like his daddy. so there is a little more advice for you on potty training. Every kid has their ups and downs just got to stick with it and have it down. Even when he does #2 in his pants stick him on the potty and tell him this is where the #2 goes. We also say bye bye to #2, pee

I enjoy your blog so keep doing what you do! As for some of the comments you receive, I could not be more annoyed by people who try to impose their values and parenting techniques on others, and basically accuse someone of not being a good parent because a child misbehaves or isn't doing something exactly at the right "time table." Every child is different, just as every person is different. I have an almost-eight-year-old boy and a 4 1/2 year old girl -- they are both parented in the same way but are as different as night and day and both respond differently to discipline. This is because they have their OWN personalities! IMHO, you sound like a great mom, and I enjoy your real-life stories about your kids and their sometimes unpredictable behavior : )

Parenting isn't easy and there isn't a book that covers every phase or situation you will encounter as a Parent. My son turned 2 and everything changed. My Husband came up with a song when our son turned 2last September..."Wee wee for Mommy, wee wee for Daddy, wee wee for Braxton, let's go wee wee!" He's been fully potty trained since January and even today we still have to sing "our" song when he goes potty. I agree with another Parent who posted a comment and said that kids really enjoy having a cheering squad. :-) Good luck with potty training.

What is the point of this blog? I have children and they and said did the same kinds of things. And, I tell my close friends and family about my children. I never felt so narcissistic that I had to tell everyone in the world

That is way too young to be saying things like that, I don't find it remotely cute. She would have been punished if she were mine, my daughter is 9 and I wouldn't take that from her let alone a 5 yr old. Remember to be a parent and don't worry about being their friend.

I would have spanked her little tail for being such a smarty mouth. Parents don't believe in spanking these days thats whats wrong with our children. They get away with too much..........

You have to learn to beat them at their own game, which window, you can see out all the windows.

When my daughter was a teen she forgot her lunch money one time and I ran it into the school, she was standing around talking to her friends, boy was she mad, she laid me out, I was never to do that again. I quite kindly informed her, if she ever talked to me like that again, I was going to march right into that school and discuss the potty training issues we had with her, with her friends. Needless to say, she got a whole lot nicer.

My son was 3 in April and sometimes he says the darnest things. Sometimes its like talking to an adult instead of a toddler. As for the potting training - we are in the same boat - no interest, so we're waiting a while before pursueing it again.
