Happy feet

Training is paying off!   I am close to running the 5k at a nice easy pace.  It's funny. There's always a point during those challenging hills when I am not exactly jogging.. but  not walking either.  I don't know what you'd call it: Jalking? It doesn't last long, though. I've got time to get better.

I am jogging on happy feet because I am in new running shoes.  The Brooks brand is my preference.  I was pretty sure before I bought them that I needed new ones,  but a quick check of the sales records at my favorite store bore the proof.  I should have laid those old shoes aside back in April.

I blogged previously about a wonderful charity called Soles for Souls that donates used shoes to people in need all over the world.  So, SFS now has my old running shoes.

I am thankful to everyone who has offered suggestions on good running songs, cross-training, and how to get myself motivated on those lazy days when my body simply doesn't want to move.  It is all paying off.  I am really looking forward to the race on June 14th!

Next week, I am planning to go out to Meredith College and run the 5k course.  Say, did you know that they've changed the route a little bit?  The Komen Triangle folks have made adjustments to handle the huge mass of people who converge at the starting line.  The race will now start right on Hillsborough Street for the first time this year.

Next time, I can tell you what it's like on the new course.  One thing I've always like about this race route is how leafy and scenic it is.  I always like to get a feel for any course before a race.  That way, I get to plan my approach, knowing where all the land mines,  uh make that challenges, are.

What about you?  Tell me about some of your pre-race strategies.
