People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

North Carolina's Best Barbecue

We’ll begin our Best of Carolina Project by taking nominations for Best Barbecue. I would like to split the competition into two categories: Best Downeast Barbecue and Best Western or Lexington Style Barbecue. Those restaurants getting the most nominations will make our Best of Carolina Barbecue Poll. We will accept nominations through Tuesday, August 5 on this blog and then put up the poll the following day.  Your votes on that poll will determine the winners in the two categories.

When you make your nomination on this blog feel free to explain why you think your restaurant is deserving of the top honor.

Personally, I love it all – east and west. As long as it’s cooked long and right. North Carolina is “The Cradle of Cue” but who makes the best?

You decide.

White Swan BBQ out of Smithfield/Four Oaks NC has the best BBQ.

Short Sugars? Only plate of BBQ that I ever walked away from in 47 years.

Not Even Close--PARKER'S BBQ IN WILSON

I agree - ketchup is only good on hamburgers and french fries - not on BBQ! I would say that Bill's in Wilson is my favorite - but let me clarify - not the buffet - order from takeout - makes all the difference in the world. Parker's in Wilson would be second and B's in Greenville third.

Clyde Coopers BBQ in Raleigh is the best I've ever had!

Parkers of Wilson has the absolute best BBQ. Not too much spice - just right!!

Short Sugar's BBQ in Reidsville, NC Bob's Barbeque in Creedmoor, NC

I LOOOOOVVVVEEEEE Parker's in Greenville and Wilson. My daddy used to take us there when i was a little girl. I can still taste the cornbread sticks dipped in "vinegar sauce". I haven't been in years, but have fond memories.

Lets not forget Ole Time out on hillsboro st. Its very good

The best I've had is Stephenson's BBQ at McGess X Roads, then the Second best I've Had is Johnnie's in Louisburg,
