Ms. Scales & Ms. Heuts
I have twin girls in the third grade at East Wake Academy. We were accepted off the waiting list for the third nine weeks. Changing schools in the middle of the year was something my girls were very nervous about but they were blessed with fabulous teachers. Ms. Scales and Mrs. Heuts made an extra effort to welcome and make my girls transition wonderful. The girls' first day of school, my husband and I recieved an email about mid-day to let us know that the girls were adjusting well and making friends. It was an unexpected surprise and really let us know that we were going to love East Wake Academy and we do!
Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Ellington
There are many great teachers in Wake Co. But when it comes to 1st grade and pushing a student to all they can be, very few can compare to the workings of Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Ellington at EAST WAKE ACADEMY. They have reached far beyond my goals for my child showing her that she CAN do anything! She has such great school spirit and a passion for learning everyday. The first few years of a childs education is the most important and directs them in the path that leads them to be all they can be. The staff at EAST WAKE ACADEMY are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best!!!! Thank you Mrs. Turner and thank you Mrs. Ellington
Ms. Walton, Ms. Gant & Ms. Goff
I would like to thank Ms. Walton, Ms. Gant, and Ms. Goff for all the hard work that they have done thru out the year! Keep up the good work and may God bless the whole 7th grade crew!!
Dan McGinnis, Kim Stiwinter & Sheree Blackman
These teachers are very important at East Wake Academy. My son was taught by this team 2 years ago, and now my daughter is being taught by this 5th Grade Team. These teachers all have a unique way of teaching students which makes it a fun and exciting to learn. I always can see what is being taught in there classes, as my daughter will play school on the weekend and you can here her comments reflecting those she has seen from each of these teachers. They each have a caring and compasionate heart and they always are ready to help the slow learners and want to see the succeed. The East Wake Academy 5th Grade team will be going on an overnight field trip this week to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. Kim Stiwinter made the comment 2 years ago that 5th grade was special and they wanted students to remember their 5th grade as a special year. Each team members gives their 100% to see this happen. We are fortunate to have such wonderful teachers at our charter school. Hats off and a special thanks to the 5th Grade Team!
Ms. Boykin
When you visit the school she always greets you with a smile. She teaches the kids how to be nice and how to treat people with kindness.
Mrs. Heuts
My son has improved a lot in math and I think it has a lot to do with his teacher. She instills in her students everyday "Make good choices." He has really enjoyed being in her class this year. I'm thankful she has made the transition into 3rd grade easy and enjoyable for him. He will miss her next year.
Robin Hinton
Mrs. Hinton is a super team player! She is firm, yet gives the kids love when they need it. She compliments Mrs. Walker, helping complete the class. She is a great asset to East Wake Academy!
Mr. Holloman
I would like to show appreciation to Mr. Holloman. I have three children in EWA, and he has in some way touched them all. He has been instrumental in getting Alex into ECU, and guiding him thru the process, even taking him down there for a weekend and showing him around, and going to a football game. For Abbey, he taught her in summer school so she could be sucessful in EOG's, and for Jacob, recognized and recomemded something that would allow him to learn in a more effective way. Mind you, my three kids span from 1st thru 12th grade. He is committed to all the children and young adults at EWA. I take my hat off to him. He is a great asset to EWA, and a blessing to all the kids.
Carol Johnson
Mrs. Johnson really shows a love for teaching and her children. She is always available to the students and parents. She has great creativity in the classroom. Mrs. Johnson puts an emphasis on good character traits. She recognizes her students for politeness, kindness to one another and responsability. She takes time to teach outside the curriculum: like the importance of exercise and memorization of poetry. She has instilled, in my child, a love for reading. Mrs. Johnson is a great teacher!!
Maurice Lock
Mr. Lock is an eighth grade history teacher. Mr. Lock encourages each student to do their best. He cares about each child in a different way. Mr. Lock encorporates life lessons with the world's history. Mr. Lock has espically touched my life with love and compassion. Mr. Lock is the ultimate package that a teacher could ever be.
Dan McGinnis
Mr. McGinnis is the funniest teacher I've ever had. Every day I come home and tell my mom and dad about something he's said in class. He is also a great story teller. He really makes history come alive. I look forward to every day in his class!
Mrs. McGinnis
My daughter is in the 4th grade at East Wake Academy in Zebulon, NC. Her teacher this year is Mrs. McGinnis. Up until this year my daughter has not had much intrest in school. Just getting her to do her homework was a nightly battle. This year Mrs. McGinnis has shown her that leaning is fun. She is now reading all the time and loves it. She has also found joy in writing short stories. Mrs. McGinnis has even choosen one of her stories to submit to Scholastic. Words could never be enough to express the gratitude that I have for this wonderful teacher, Mrs. McGinnis.
Mrs. Rothra
Mrs. Rothra is the best music teacher. She makes music fun and the children love performing because she is so much fun! Mrs. Rothra is the best!!
Tracy Spragins
What can I say about Ms Spragins! She is my son's favorite teacher. We love her! She is so sweet and kind! She takes the time with each child and finds the good in every child. When my child was struggling she found different techniques to help him stride and give him the confedence, to show him he can do anything. She makes learning more fun. When my son is having a bad morning she gives him a hug and talks with him and makes him feel better. I wish more teachers were like her!!
Mrs. Viar
Both Her and Mrs. Johnson are GREAT, but she does SO much. Her smile on the carpool line makes a cloudy day sunny.
Mrs. Walker
Mrs. Walker is the best! She is firm and has control, but has the balance of being loveable and personable when those little kindergarteners need hugs. She challenges and stretches the children with their work, but she makes it fun, so the children do not even realize they are doing work! Mrs. Walker is an awesome teacher! We love her!!!!
Amy West
She has taught both of our kids and she brings 100% everyday. She is a true gift, the kids love her.

As a mom of a 5 year old and his first days of school ... I have to admit I was more scared than he was. We were on the waiting list at east wake academy and 2 days before school started we got in!!!! It was a happy day at our house. Still as a mom and your oldest heading off to school...I still had butterflies....that was until I met Miss West and Mrs. Traylor … They truly are a blessing and have made our experience better than we ever imagined and hoped for. My son loves school, he even loves doing homework. The atmosphere at East Wake Academy from the staff to the teachers to the other kids is a parents' dream. I never once in a day worry about him. I know he is learning and happy and that means more than you know. So I just wanted to give thanks to Miss West and Mrs Traylor for making this first year very easy for our family and for making school fun for our son....a good education, a good atmosphere and good teachers are a lot to ask of these days and to add a 5 year boy who thinks his teachers are rock stars...well, it doesn't get any better than that … Thank you to everyone at East Wake Academy...it takes a group of people to make things happen and they have really made kindergarten fun at my house!!!! My butterflies are gone....thank you!!!
