Garner High School
Ms. Dixon
Ms. Dixon was known to be a strict, no game playing, English teacher. My friends and family whom she taught either thought she was too hard or they just did not like her. I on the other hand found Ms. Dixon to be quite the scholar. She and I would pick on each other to the point that I usually got sent out of the room. The next day, it was as if nothing ever happened. Of all my classes, I truly learned more in Ms. Dixon's English class than anywhere else. I hope she is doing well today.
Sabrina Penuel
Sabrina is the type of teacher that any parent would dream of having educate thier child. She not only cares about their successes while in high school but also in each student personal life as well as after graduation. She has developed the Garner Magnet Dance program into a program that many schools in the area respect. Sabrina has taught students the importance of responsibility and respect for themselves. She supports the Garner High Dance Boosters and has a great working relationship with all the parents. She brought in a nationally known dance company to give the students an opportunity to see people that have turned dance into their careers. She assisted in writing a grant to bring multiple resources to Garner Magnet that otherwise the students would have not been able to take advantage of (which included but not limited to a dance studio, nationally known dance companies, costumes, dance equipment). So she not only teaches dance at the school but is the director of the colorguard and winterguard, has multiple performaces throughout the year to raise money to purchase new costumes and equipment for the students. She often stays at school until 8 or 9 pm organizing all these events (including developing her own event programs). Mrs. Penuel has the drive as a dance educator to provide each student with an oppotunity to learn, explore, and develop their own dance skills as well as performance skills- which will only benefit these students in the future. She also takes a group of students to New York yearly to give these students the opporunity to see a Broadway show and take lessons from highly qualified and nationally know dancers. The students have to raise money in order to go. She instills the attribute of responsibility. Mrs. Penuel has provided these students with so many opportunites and she is a wonderful teacher that she should be recognized and appreciated by others!
