The special teacher in my life is my mother. My mom had me while she was still in school at Meredith. As it happened I was coming into my early years at the same time she began her teaching career with Wake County. In addition to being her son, I was her "test student." Many nights were spent reading, and playing what I thought were games, but now realize were her lesson plans. In those early years I had a special combination of a loving mother and eager young teacher to love me, and learn from. My mother went on to teach kindergarten, become an Assistant Principal at Wiley Elementary. After 30 years with Wake County she retired from Washington GT Magnet as a Principal of the Year. Since her retirement she has returned to Meredith College to lead their Teaching Fellows program - a way to cultivate a new generation of teachers. She has never stopped teaching. I'm blessed to have had so many years as her student, and her son. I'm so very proud of her.
