In 2005 we transferred our children to Fuller Elementary. My oldest daughter was entering the 5th grade. An academically gifted student, we were excited that she might finally be challenged, and thus be a lot happier. The first semester of Ms. Mayo's fifth grade class was tougher than she had ever experienced, and she often complained about Ms. Mayo being too hard or too mean. The truth, however, was that the bar had been raised and my child was expected to jump higher. Ms. Mayo knew what my daughter was capable of, and by Christmas she was easily meeting and exceeding her own, the teacher's, and even our expectations. By 6th grade she was fully prepared for the rigors of AG level middle school. I will be forever greatful to Ms. Mayo, and I recognize her as the "pivotal" teacher in my daughter's educational success, and her life!
