Creedmoor, N.C. — The Granville County school system says it has no timetable to fix a condemned field house at South Granville High School that was damaged in a storm earlier this summer.
School officials, however, say a structural engineer condemned the building and that the school system is going to file an insurance claim to try to get it repaired.
Until then, there is no access to water, which keeps the football team from being able to practice and play on its home turf. The first game of the season is next Friday.
The field house also houses bathrooms used during home games and is also where concessions are set up.
"Those are not ideal situations, and that is why we're exploring every option we can, at this point," said Gus Gillespie, a spokesman for the Granville County School System.
They're looking at bringing in portable toilets and concession units to keep the team on its home field.
Parents of football players say they have reported a list of problems, including poor plumbing and poor electricity, at the field house for years and want to know how it got the point that it was condemned.
The school system says it's invested more than $100,000 in recent years on improvements at the athletic park, including a new hot water heater in the field house.
